New Horizons' trailblazing journey to the solar system's outermost frontier took it past the orbit of Mars today at 6 a.m. EDT , 78 days after the spacecraft launched.

April 29 marks another milestone in New Horizons’ historic journey to Pluto - the spacecraft's 100th day of flight. "It's been a good flight so far, and we're working to keep it that way," says New Horizons Mission Operations Manager Alice Bowman, of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md.

　于2006年1月19日升空前往冥王星执行探测任务的“新地平线号”探测器已于6月2日进入位于火星与木星轨道间的太阳系主要小行星带边缘。


　　据来自负责本次探测任务的飞行指挥中心的消息称，“新地平线号”探测器经过78天的飞行后于4月7日穿过火星轨道。探测器最新的一个主要目标便是木星，因为在2007年2月28日“新地平线号”将在木星强大的引力场作用下完成制动。这次制动将提高探测器的飞行速度并改变其飞行轨道，目的是按照原计划在2015年抵达冥王星。

Nearly six months after launch, New Horizons has tested several of its science instruments, tracked an asteroid, and is closer to Jupiter than it is to the Sun. Closest approach to Pluto and its moons is exactly nine years away, and New Horizons is definitely on its way!

分辨率怎么那么低呢?

因为这颗小行星距离新地平线号102,000公里，不过别担心，随着它深入小行星带还会有许多精彩的照片的。

Pluto-Charon: A True Double Planet

Under proposed International Astronomical Union definitions, two planets that orbit each other around a barycenter between them are a binary planet. Those same definitions would expand the "family" of planets to include Charon, promoting Pluto's large companion from moon to planet and securing the pair's status as the first and (so far) only binary planet in the solar system.

根据国际天文学会的定义提出两个行星轨道周围的重心在彼此之间是双行星系统。这些定义将扩大"太阳系家族"的行星，冥卫一和冥王星是在太阳系里唯一的双行星系统。

As New Horizons cruised toward the edge of the asteroid belt and a date with Jupiter, the spacecraft that revolutionized our knowledge of that giant planet more than 25 years ago made history again this week. On Aug. 15, NASA's enduring Voyager 1, already Earth's farthest-flung robotic ambassador, became the first spacecraft to reach a distance of 100 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun.
当新地平线号离接近木星的日子越来越近时，而25年以前的一艘航天器在本周成为了历史。在8月15日，美国国家航天局的旅行者一号，已经是地球的最遥远的机器人大使。成为第一架抵达距太阳100个天文单位（AU）的距离。

对，进行各种仪器的测试。卡西尼号也是在经过木星时做一起检测和测试的

1月18日，目前新地平线号还差38天抵达木星，现在已经可以传回木星的照片了

没错，这次确实有很多热点，比如说木星的磁场及卫星轨道，还有就是天文学界比较关心的第二个大红斑，当然还有先睹为快的：在“黎明”号发射之前，就可以先对木星的光环进行探测……等，值得期待
